GOOGLE HISTORY AND UPDATES

Google is an American multinational company specializing on Internet-related services and products. These include online advertising technologies, search, cloud computing, and software. Most of its profits are derived from AdWords,  an online advertising service that places advertising near the list of search results. Google reached first position because of their updates and this updates its commonly  called google updates.

HISTORY    

Google began in January 1996 as a research project by Larry  Page and Sergey Brin when they were both PhD students at Stanford University in Stanford, California. The domain name of google was registered on September 15 1997.

                                                 

MECHANISM

The search engine of google used 3 main steps:                                                                                                                                                                                                                       

1. web crawling

2. web caching

3. web indexing

The first mechanism of the google search engine is by using keywords it is also called niche specific(content-based), that was the successfull mechanism. But after that the people are doing keyword stuffing, means that web owners are inserting keyword into the website for increasing the rating. To solve this  issue google updated mechanism of searching from link specific.

The next mechanism is link specific means that the website got other link from any websites  that shows first. With that the website owners are selling the links to other websites. increasing of this problem google develop an update for link specific to quality link specific.

In quality link update mechanism, the google introduce a new term called Pagerank introduced on December 6, 2013. Page-rank of the website is given by google. On this update the high page rank websites selling the links by cost. To control this method introduce an update of  "passing the juice". Once a link is passed into another website that website looses the page rank.

GOOGLE ALGORITHM UPDATES 

                               

1. PANDA UPDATE (FARMER) 

 Google Panda is a change to Google's search results ranking algorithm. it was first and strongest update released on February 23, 2011. It is also called FARMER update. This update is against content spamming. That means copy and pasting of one content of website to another website. For the first two years, Google Panda's updates were rolled out about once a month, but Google stated in March 2013 that future updates would be integrated into the algorithm and would therefore be less noticeable and continuous. Google introduce several versions of PANDA such as PANDA farmer to PANDA 4.2. 

2. PENGUIN UPDATE 

Google Penguin is the second major update of  Google algorithm that was first released  on April 24, 2012. This update is against link spamming. The update is against the website doing link spamming, such as link exchange, link selling, automatic link generator, link spamming etc. The latest update of penguin is penguin 6 on October 17, 2014.

3. PIGEON UPDATE 

Google Pigeon is the third major update of google mainly based on location of an user. This update was released on July 24, 2014. The update is aimed to increase the ranking of local listing in a search. Google find out the location by the Internet Protocol address (IP address) and show the result of nearby places that added on google.

for example: 

if an user searches "hospital" in google, the result shows near by hospital in  user's location. 

4. GOOGLE EMD UPDATE 

Google EMD is the fourth major update of google introduced on September 27, 2012. This update is domain name that exactly matches the searched keyword phrase of a user, and contains no data's or important files on that website. This spamming method is mainly used for link expansion.

For example, if you search Google for the keyword phrase “kollam,” then "Kollam.com " would be the exact-match domain name. but sometimes "kollam.com" does not contain dashes or files that user required.

5. HUMMING BIRD UPDATE 

Google Humming bird is the fifth major update of google introduce on august 20,2013. This algorithm is based on Symatic Search Result. The algorithm was designed to focus on  meaning of the phrase rather than individual keywords. The advanced version of Humming bird is RANBRAIN update.

6. PIRATE UPDATE

Google Pirate update is a filter update, on august 2012. This update is against the  copy of the multimedia objects such as images , videos and animated files. This spamming method is to increase the ranking level (page rank) of the website in google.
